Among the many historical accounts of the city of Ravenna, a peculiar one concerns its relationship with the sea. It is the history of the ports of the ancient Byzantine capital, born on the water and gradually removed from it by the accumulation of silt, but always carefully maintaining a sort of important “umbilical cord” as a link to the Adriatic sea and to the world. The history begins with the military port of Classe and the Civil port of Roman times; it continues with Porto Panfilio, on a channel that flowed into the sea at Lido Adriano, near the Turrazza, then with Porto Coriandro al Badareno and with the Candiano port. This bike ride through history, enriched by dance performances and by the tastes of Romagna, will end at the City Dock, the present and future of a city that has always looked East.
