A highbrow musician and composer with a considerable taste for the ancestral and mysterious vibrations of folk music, concert master Giovanni Sollima and his inseparable cello will tackle the magical world of tarantism in an extraordinary cult event, La Notte della Taranta. After seven years (seven is a magic number!), the irresistible rhythms of Salento will return to the picturesque amphitheatre on the River Lamone facing the stately Rasponi mansion. These rhythms feature in the universal DNA of music, and, in Sollima’s words, “trigger the body to generate dance, just as breathing generates singing and vice versa”. These rhythms also burst into Sollima’s writing: his Antidotum Tarantulae XXI combines the infectious energy of ritual with Renaissance and Baroque inflections in a timeless journey in time.
