VINICIO CAPOSSELA E LA BANDA DELLA POSTA

These men used to meet on sunny afternoons in front of the village Post Office, waiting to cash their pension cheques. When the long-desired money arrived, they picked up their instruments and started to play. “They looked like old gunslingers in straw hats”, Vinicio Capossela says, who dragged this irresistible band from Calitri, Irpinia, into an adventure on stage. Tottacreta, Matalena, Bubù, Parrucca (these are some of their nicknames), white hair and energy to spare, now give new, solemn vitality to the repertoire of mazurkas, polkas, waltzes, tangos, tarantellas, quadrilles and foxtrots they used to perform at endless wedding parties in the ’50s and ’60s. Their music has the taste of simple but durable things, and is guaranteed to get your feet tapping and raise the dust.
