DONIZETTI’S L’ELISIR D’AMORE

OperaUpClose, one of the most innovative opera companies today, has quickly captured the attention of audience and critics alike with a fresh, revolutionary approach to the opera repertoire and a hint of British irreverence. In this version Adina is the biggest star in Hollywood – and Nemorino adores her. When an ambitious army officer makes a very public proposal to Adina, Nemorino is in despair, until Dulcamara, the smooth-talking stylist, comes to his rescue with a remedy which he promises will win Adina once and for all. Donizetti’s warm-hearted opera fizzes with wit, great tunes and keen-eyed dissection of the way love can confound even the cleverest of us. Director Valentina Ceschi sets L’elisir d’amore at a glamorous 1950’s Hollywood garden party, with a new English libretto by Verity Bargate Award-winner Thomas Eccleshare.
